Podcasting familiarity:
The report says that around 70% of the U.S. people are familiar with the term podcasting. This is up from 8% as compared to 2018.

Podcast awareness:
In 2017, 19% of the U.S. people were aware of podcasts, while in 2018, 20% of the people were aware of podcasts. In 2019, it was again down by 1% and 19% of the people are aware of podcasts.
Podcast growth statistics:
51% of the U.S. population have listened to podcasts in 2019. In 2018 only 44% of people have listened to podcasts while it was just 40% in 2017.

Also, the survey revealed that 32% of U.S. people have listened to podcasts at least every month. This is up from 6% as compared to 26% in 2018.

It is clear from the graph that monthly podcast listeners are growing gradually.
Podcast consumers gender-wise:

- 22% of men have listened to monthly podcasts in 2017 and 2018. While this number has increased to 36% in 2019.
- Compared with men, the percentage of women listening to podcasts is a little low. Only 21% of women have listened to monthly podcasts in 2017, 24% in 2018, and 29% in 2019.

The survey also analyzed the reasons for not listening to podcasts. There are many reasons for people not listening to podcasts like they need to pay to get the subscription, the podcasts are lengthy, and they don't have time for listening to podcasts.

- 42% of these listeners will listen to podcasts within 24 hours of downloading
- 31% of them listen within 48 hours of downloading
- 19% of the people listen within a week
- Only 3% of them listen three weeks or so
Most popular podcast genres
- Music is the most popular music genre having fans of 61.1 million US households.
- Next to that is TV & movies with 60.5 million households.
- The third most popular is the comedy with 59.9 million
- Technology has over 58.9 million and stands out as the fourth most popular podcast genre
- The fifth is the kids & family with 58.7 million households
Out of these music has the most avid fans with 37.1 million households, followed by TV & movies with 36.8 million households.
The comedy genre has around 29.8 million and Technology has 27.2 million avid fans.
The last popular genre is the kids and family with 25 million household Avid fans.
Podcast advertising statistics
Podcasting report by IAB and PwC revealed that U.S. marketers have spent $479 million for advertising on podcasts. This is a really good development and 53% up from 2017. In 2017, their share was just $314 million.
This will continue to increase and as per the estimates, it will reach $650 million by 2020 and $1 billion in 2021.

- Also, in 2018 the dynamically inserted ads revenue has increased from 41.7% to 48.8%.
- 60 seconds of spot length advertisements have contributed 30% while 90-second advertisements have 27% contribution. Greater than 90-second ads have only 1% contribution.
- "News/politics/current events" genre has the highest advertising revenue of 18.4%, next to that is the "comedy" with a revenue of 13.9%. "Business" ranks third in advertising revenue with 12.8%.
